New Facebook design goes live

Well, it’s official – the new Facebook design is a go. No, not that one from a few months ago — this is brand new:

Like it or not, Facebook could really care less. There is already a group of 1.6 million users that wants to petition against it, but if history has thought us anything is that Facebook could care less of what its users think – it’s not like they will leave (even if they wanted to, they can only “deactivate” their account). More ranting after the break

I personally like the design and think it is better than the last one – all the news events are now better organized different fields of the layout, making it easier to find what you are looking for in a flash. Additionally, you can now sort your news on filters you set – for example of your different networks – work, school, or geographical. Everything is rounder and it is easier to post status updates, links, videos, or photos, since it’s all done from the same box now. Oh and another feature as useless as the old “Poke” is added and it’s called Nickname. Other than that, not a whole lot of changes to report.

And would people PLEASE give it up with those useless petitions – they don’t go anywhere and it involves me having to open emails I get, as well as invitations to groups like “Bring the old Facebook back” and such. A free service is a free service. The company will do what it thinks will bring them the most money, so they will design the layout with that in mind and would not invest time and money to address everyone’s demands. Even if they did listen to what a group had to say, out of 175 million users, only 1.6 million are in that group, meaning that over 99% of their users don’t mind the new design.
